Crowds of visitors flocked to PEPPOL booth at BBG exhibition

On 29th March, 2012, PEPPOL presented its solutions for eProcurement at the 5th exhibition of the Austrian Federal Procurement Agency “Nutzen.Leben 2012” in Vienna. The largest fair for public purchase in Austria is organised by the Austrian agency for public procurement, the Bundesbeschaffung GmbH (BBG), once a year. The event primarily addresses representatives of public authorities.

This year, about 150 exhibitors showed their services and products to more than 1,500 employees of the Austrian public administration. Current trends and innovations were presented. The PEPPOL booth was visited by numerous contracting authorities. Although many visitors were interested in the latest developments of the PEPPOL project, the focus was primarily on the eInvoicing component of PEPPOL.

Electronic invoicing is the automated process of issuing, sending, receiving and processing invoice data by electronic means. Creating efficiency and cost reductions, eInvoicing can also unleash significant resources for further value-added tasks and innovations in the public administration. The project is currently in the pilot phase – several cross-border pilot cases regarding eInvoicing have already been successfully carried out.

One important topic was also the new concept of sustainability presented by PEPPOL. The PEPPOL Governing Board recently agreed on establishing OpenPEPPOL as a non-profit international association. The main aim of OpenPEPPOL is to increase the interoperability of eProcurement in Europe and to guarantee the sustainability of the PEPPOL project.
